Irish sweatlodges and entheogens
Hows it going everyone... iam new to the forum but i am so happy something like this is going on in eire.
I grew up in ireland but relocated to americaland when the auld economy went tits up. thats another story.
Since being here i have been involved with the native community, here on the west coast and have had the privilege to attend a sweatlodge.
A basic description of a sweatlodge for anyone who dosent know can be found here...http://www.cyberbohemia.com/Pages/historysweatlod.htm
The chief that ran the sweat was happy to inform me that Ireland has some of the oldest sweatlodge traditions in the world.
Now, having grown up in the southeast i never heard tell of such a ritual going on. \
The sweat was a realy amazing experience and a full body/mind cleanse.
I found this article online upon my return to the land of the living.... http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/sweathouses2.htm
Around the middle of the article the author makes the point that there is a good possibility that the ancient cultures that built these sweat houses might have used an entheogenic mushroom during the sweat ceremonies. Now this ties in nicely with this other author who argues, quite convincingly i might add, that the irish were the original users of the soma entheogen described in the Rig veda, which is one of the oldest texts in the world.
That book is called Ploughing the clouds by Peter Lamborn Wilson. A must read for any irish psychonauhts.
So.... i am on a mission now to find more information on these topic so any help would be much appreciated.....
Cheers
